Oxalis Triangularis

Also known as: Purple Shamrock

Origin: South America

Nursery Pot Size: 12cm

The highly sought after, but fairly fickle Purple Shamrock is a plant in need of some TLC. This guy is still a baby but once the stems start to grow, those beautiful deep purple leaves will have more room to open and flourish. A cool feature of this plant is that it follows a day to night rhythm much like ourselves, opening and closing its distinctive leaves like a very dark butterfly. Over time it will produce stunning light purple flowers which are edible!

Light: I love some light, but direct light is too much for me.

Water: Water me weekly, but make sure my topsoil is dry between waterings.

Humidity: Spritz my leaves with water every now and then to wipe off dust build-up.

Temperature: I prefer living in cool parts of the house

Fertiliser: Feed me very infrequently (every couple of months)

Toxicity: I am harmful if my leaves are ingested in large quantities. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

A handy tip  -Make sure not to overwater this plant. The leaves will turn yellow and spots will develop - remember to allow the soil to dry out between waterings, especially in winter.
